Oh, February, 2026

Oh, radiant light.

The month of truths told and secrets exposed.

Lies revealed and shadows illuminated.

The sun burns the eyes, the heart sinks, the shoulders collapse.

And the Sun is swallowed by the dragon.

The Soul remembers, I am here to shine light.

Moon whispers and cries and fills with hope.

Deflation and exuberance.

And Soma is swallowed by the dragon.

One by one, each are consumed as the serpent transforms, digests, sheds its skin.

A storm of unraveling of falsehoods, deceptions and trickery.

The Fire Horse emerges, breaks free, galloping toward the horizon of hope.

This month is dedicated to Lord Shiva, as Maha Sivaratri is celebrated on the 14th day of the waning moon (K14) in the month of Phalguna. This month reflects the story of Shiva and specifically this year, the ending of the Wood Snake year (Full Moon) into the Fire Horse year (New Moon Solar Eclipse).

The themes this month are of snakes, Nagas, the kundalini serpent of sacred wisdom, fertility, immortality and the caduceus, intertwining serpents which symbolize trade, commerce, negotiation, eloquent communication, and peace, properties of Mercury (Ashlesa is ruled by Mercury).

In the churning of the ocean, the Devas and Asuras (Gods and Demons) work together to create a peaceful world. The first thing that emerged from the churning was the poison Halahala.

Shiva consumes the poison (Ashlesha, the shakti to inflict poison) into his throat to protect the Universe, and holds it in his throat. Parvati, his beloved appears to fuse her energies with Shiva to help transform the poison into etheric pranic substance and disolve it into the atmosphere. What emerges next is Amrita, the nectar of immortality. Promised to the Devas and Asuras, Vishnu tricks the Asuras and only offers amrita to the Devas. Rahuketu is disguised as a Deva and consumes one drop of amrita, Surya and Soma, the Sun and the Moon realize the asuras true nature and informed Mohini, the seductive feminine form of Vishnu, who immediately threw his sudarshan chakra and cut off the head of Rahuketu. Rahu the head and Ketu the body. Because one drop of nectar at the throat is consumed, Rahuketu is immortal and forever seeks revenge on the Sun and the Moon, chasing and eclipsing their light. This month is rich in symbolism of Maha Shivaratri and eclipses.

In the New Moon Solar Eclipse, Shiva leads us with his drum, chanting mantra and singing his praises into the new lunar year. Dhanishtha is ruled by fiery Mars, the initiator, the aggressor, the general, Dhanishtha creates the rhythm to march on, keep going and keep dancing.
